About us

Our Story

Our story starts back in 1993 in the beach town of Brighton, where a cosy hostel began welcoming backpackers from around the world. Guests who stayed all shared a love for food, and would cook together every Thursday night. Guests would share their most loved dishes from their home countries with everyone around the table. Stories, experiences, passions and laughter, were all shared over delicious food around one big table.

In 2015 we decided to move to London and became Prime Backpackers. We were after a bigger kitchen, a bigger table to continue our family dinners, and to grow our community of diverse and friendly people. We found a beautiful 200 year old Victorian building to make our new home, just around the corner from Regent’s Canal.

Over the years we have had so many lovely guests become part of the Prime family that a second Prime Backpackers was created. We felt it was only right to head back to the beach, however this time, to a more undiscovered beach town; Bournemouth.

What remains the same, is the heart of Prime, our large kitchens. Our focus is on a generous space where we can cook and eat together. There are few things that help connect people more than sharing great food around a big table.

Our Vision:

Our vision is to create a space for people to explore both the exciting fast paced life of London, along with the more hidden parts that only reveal themselves to those who are willing to explore off the beaten track. We continue to want to share the beautiful outdoors in and around Bournemouth, and, at the same time, have a safe environment to relax and recharge, meet likeminded people and share unique experiences.

Who we are:

We are a community that values generosity of spirit, discovery, shared experiences and most importantly, food!

We are friendly folk, who come and go on various adventures. Our hostel is powered by the lovely and diverse people staying with us. We are backpackers, musicians, digital nomads, artists, explorers, cooks, volunteers, writers and much more.

Our ethos:

What makes us different is that we invite our guests to share their passions, whether this is setting up an open mic night, cooking up your Country’s famous dish, showcasing your art, or simply by sharing your story.

We are more than just a place to sleep. We are a place to explore, to be inspired, to share, to make new friends, and to enjoy.
